Franzi “Five in a Row”

With the help of our pirate friend “Pete” (Pirate Pete, by Doug Kennedy) we will sail around the globe discovering all 7 continents and the main oceans! As we travel from continent to continent Pete and the children will meet different characters from around the world introducing us to amazing facts, the people, special customs, language, art and more. The journey will end with a treasure hunt using our newly acquired map skills.
Week 1: “Pirate Pete” by Doug Kennedy, Basic map skills, world map
Week 2: “The Little Red Lighthouse and the great Gray Bridge” by Hildegard H. Swift, North America, NYC, Atlantic ocean, using Lighthouses for navigation
Week 3: “Gramma’s Walk” by Anna Grossnickle Hines, South America, Pacific Ocean, beaches, animals near or on the beach
Week 4: “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” by Beatrix Potter, Europe, England, foraging, plant identification
Week 5: “Diary of a Baby Wombat” by Jackie French, Australia, indian ocean, marsupials
Week 6: “Lost and Found” by Oliver Jeffers, Antartica, the earths poles and animals, play dough animal shaping
Week 7: “Chinese and English nursery rhymes” by Faye-Lynn Wu, Asia, China, making rice
Week 8: “The Giraffe that walked to Paris” by Nancy Milton, Africa, animal care, pets/zoo animals
Week 9: “Harold and the purple crayon” by Crocket Johnson, with the kids help we will  write a story taking us around the globe
Week 10:  “Pirate Pete” by Doug Kennedy, Treasure Hunt
